What causes internal “inclusions”?

Inclusions are like a gemstone’s “fingerprints.” They are tiny bits of other minerals or liquids trapped inside the stone while it was growing underground millions of years ago. Common inclusions include:

  • Rutile needles: These look like fine, golden hairs and are often found in Quartz (Rutilated Quartz).
  • Liquid/Gas bubbles: Sometimes microscopic droplets of water or gas are trapped in the crystal lattice.
