What are the “Four Cs” of evaluating a gemstone?

CriteriaDescription
ColorThe hue, tone, and color saturation of the gem. For colored stones, this is usually the single most important factor.
ClarityThe absence of internal flaws (inclusions) or surface blemishes. Clearer stones reflect light better and are more valuable.
CutHow skillfully the stone has been shaped and faceted to maximize its sparkle and brilliance.
CaratThe physical weight of the gemstone. One carat is equal to 0.2 grams.
